LA JOLLA
La
Jolla is a fascinating community. Much is written about this
storied place, often called San Diego’s sparkling jewel.
The name probably derives from the Spanish words la joya meaning
“the jewel” or from the American Indian word woholle
meaning “hole in the mountain”. Whatever the source,
it is hard for words to capture this exquistie place of sandy
beaches, natural cliffs, brilliant blue green waters and flowering
hillsides.
Spectacular views from a collection of homes nestled within
this rough and hilly stretch of land, surrounding a downtown
area known as the Village, a bustling cityscape of restaurants,
shops, art galleries, museums, offices, and schools. Not long
ago, La Jolla could be described as sleepy, as a small town,
unrushed, peaceful. No longer.
The
Village surrounds La Jolla Cove, tucked between a pair of
sandstone cliffs, a place where tourists collect, summer and
winter, locals picnic, popular with scuba divers and snorklers.
Remarkably beautiful and expensive condominiums separate the
Cove from the Village’s busy commercial activities.
La Jolla has the charm of a Mediterranean Village, a destination
not to be missed. Discover fascinating restaurants and shops
along Prospect Street and Girard Avenue. Marvel at the magnificent
homes. Enjoy miles of exciting beaches. It's all here in enchanting
La Jolla!
