I slept in the living room without following Kiryu’s instructions.

“Keho…”

When I woke up the next morning, I saw that she had caught a cold in spectacular fashion.

“Hey, why? Why have you caught a cold?”

I told Kiryu

“Keho… You’re so noisy.
I couldn’t sleep for some reason,so I was reading a book… Keho… I guess the water must have cooled off… Keho.”(E/N: Weird onomatopoeia, but oh well.)

Kiryu stares at me with a slightly flushed face.
It’s hard to tell if it’s because she’s embarrassed or if it’s purely because of her fever…

“For now, just get some sleep.  I don’t think it’d be good if I was the one to  call the school about you though…”

“Yeah… keho… I’ll call them.”

“Can you do it?”

“My voice comes out so it’s fine.
You don’t have to worry so much … Keho “

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.
Come on, get going to school.
You’re going to be late.”

Saying so, Kiryu raises the futon up to her eyes.

No, school is…

“What are you going to do for lunch?”

“I-I’ll order delivery.”

“Idiot.
Don’t eat that non-nutritious stuff when you have a cold.”

“Then should I make some porridge?”

“Well… you’re pretty good at cooking rice.”

I know you are… but I can’t just let you do that kind of thing while having a cold.

“Alright.
I’ll also take the day off.”

“Haa~?! Why are you- Kehokeho!”

“Look, keep your voice down.
Don’t worry.
I may look like this, but my general conduct is pretty good.
I won’t get scolded for skipping a day of school”

I puffed out my chest.
Then, Kiryu gave me a suspicious look.

“You have good conduct?”

“Well, I’m not a showoff or a fuss-maker.
I just don’t stand out as much as you do.”

“You know what? Most of the time it’s not even my fault.
It’s not like I’m trying to stand out on purpose.
I’m just crushing them because they keep coming at me.”

“Normally, “crush” is not a word I would expect to come out of a highschool girl’s mouth.”

As expected, the villainess.

“I’m a pretty good student, so I don’t mind missing a day or two of class.
Unlike you, I have friends and I can ask them to show me their notes.”

“Can you please stop being so sarcastic?”

Kiryu glares at me with half-closed eyes.
Sorry…

“Anyway, you go back to bed.
I’ll bring you some porridge when I make it.”

“Ah, hey!”

“What? I’m a man who doesn’t go against his word.
Once I say I’m going to skip school, there are no two ways about it.
I’m going to skip school with all my might!”

“What nonsense are you talking about? That’s not what I meant…”

She looks at me with upturned cheeks.

“… I’m sorry…uhh… T-Thanks…”

“O-Ohh..
F-For the time being, go to sleep.”

I felt that if I looked at her any longer, I might get into trouble, so I hurriedly closed the door to my room.

◆◇◆

“Mnn, is it noon yet?”

In the morning, I made her some porridge and fed her, gave her cold medicine and put a cold sheet on her head, and soon she fell asleep.

After watching her for a bit, I then lightly cleaned up here and went to the living room to read the book I started yesterday, then my stomach started to rumble.

“Is… Kiryu up?”

I left the living room and went to the front of Kiryu’s room.
After knocking on the door of the room, I then heard a voice from inside saying, ‘Come in’.

“Good morning, Higashi kujo-kun.”

“Good morning.
How’s your fever?”

“My temperature is now 37.2 degrees.
I feel much better.” (T/N: That is 98.96°F)

“I see.
That’s great.”

It was over thirty-eight degrees in the morning, it really improved that much, huh.

“I know.
I owe it all to you.
Thank you.”

“To be honest, this morning was really tough, and if it had been just me, I think I would have just gone to bed instead of eating something like a cooked meal first.
I was dazed and misty-eyed.”

“Did I look that handsome?”

“What I see are three illusions of you.”

“What’s that supposed to be?”

Such a boring high school boy multiplied by three times.

“Huh, so that’s what you looked like…  Anyway, I’m really grateful.
Thank you so much, Mr.
Higashi Kujo.
Thanks to you, I think I can go to school by tomorrow.”

“I’m glad to hear that.
Are you ready to eat?”

There was no reply.

“What the–! This! It’s a physiological phenomenon! I can’t help it!”

Instead of a reply, a lovely sound came from Kiryu’s stomach.

“Kukku… it’s good to have an appetite despite having a cold.”

“There! Don’t laugh! I can’t control it! This is… This is not by choice!”

“Ahahaha! Sorry, sorry.
Then, what do you want to eat? I don’t want something too heavy though.”

Kiryu stares at me with a bright red face.
But after a few moments, she let out a sigh as if she gave up.

“I’m fine.
What do I want to eat….Uhh……?

She put her index finger on her chin and stared at the ceiling thinking.
Then, as if she had come up with something, her face broke out in a smile.

“Ohh… I’ve always wanted some! You know, the story about the wizard girl who works as a courier, right?”

“Huh?”

“Milk porridge!”

“Ahh.”

Oh that…

“I mean, you watch that kind of stuff?”

“Basically, I like their works.
It does have a similar pattern to the original.”

There was an original story? I didn’t know.
(T/N: I’m guessing they’re just talking about a famous movie )

“I’ve always wanted to try it once if I get sick! Hey, can you make it?”

“I can, but…”

The cooking is an easy process and the ingredients are available.
However..

“Dairy isn’t good when you have a cold, though.”

(T/N: It’s a myth proved false.
It doesnt make it worse nor better apparently.
)

“Really?”

“It might weaken your stomach.”

“Oh… I didn’t know that… I really wanted to try it out though…”

Kiryu looks disappointed and sad.
There is something about that figure that makes my heart tighten.

“Well, I guess it’s fine by now.”

“Eh?”

“I’m sure it’s not a big deal since you’re already better now.
I’ll go easy on the milk, is that okay?”

“Really?! Yeah! That’s fine!”

Kiryu hoorays to express joy.

With a smile on my face, I leave Kiryu’s room and go back to the kitchen.

I then started to take out the ingredients from the refrigerator and started cooking.

“It’s ready!”

“Wow! Looks delicious!”

After a while of cooking, I brought the finished milk porridge to Kiryu.

I smiled seeing Kiryu’s sparkling eyes and I then served her the meal.

“It’s hot, so make sure you cool it well before eating it, okay?”

“Yeah!”

“I can give you an ‘ahhh’’ again if you want.”(E/N: Kek, weird way to talk about feeding someone.)

“A tempting offer.
But I’ll pass.
I couldn’t eat by myself in the morning when I had a fever, but now that it’s gone, I don’t need you to ‘ahhh’ for me anymore.”

“Got it.”

If you can talk and joke this much, you should be fine now.

“Mmmm! It’s delicious!”

“It is? Happy to hear that.”

“Yes! Very good! You really are a good cook, aren’t you, Higashi Kujo-kun?”

“It’s not that I’m a good cook.
It’s just that there’s only so much I can make you know?”

“Is that so? But you don’t usually make milk porridge, do you?”

“Akane—ah,my sister? My sister was weak when she was little, and she would get fevers quite often.
My parents were busy, so it was my job to nurse her.”

Oh Well, there was only a one year gap between us, so nursing is a bit of a stretch.

“At that time, she said, ‘I want to eat milk porridge.’ quite often”

“That’s when she was little, right? Eh? Are you telling me I’m like a little girl?”

“Don’t worry.
She still asks for it now when she gets a fever.”

I tell her not to because it’s bad for digestion, but she just won’t budge.

Wait.
Will she complain too, saying that “milk porridge” is a sister specialty?

“Oh, and by the way, don’t tell her I made you milk porridge.”

“Eh? Why?”

“Mainly, for the sake of my survival.”

The nightmare of Italian Mapo Tofu was back.

I shook my head rapidly at my words, but Kiryu nodded her head nonetheless.

I’m so happy.
My life is protected.

“Fuu~.
Thank you for the meal! It was great!”

“It wasn’t much…”

“What do you mean it wasn’t much?! It was delicious!”

That’s great then.

“Then take your pills and get some more sleep.
You’ll be fine by tomorrow.”

“…”

“What’s wrong? Oh.
You can’t sleep anymore?”

“Woo… well.
I slept way too much.”

“Even so, you’ll need to sleep to get better, okay?”

The best medicine to cure a cold is sleep.

“I-I understand! That’s why I’m going to sleep… but I’m pretty lonely and…”

Mumbling, Kiryu sneaks under the futon.
A large mountain was formed there.
Is she trying to cosplay something?

“Uh… right.”

She takes only her eyes out of the futon and looks up at me.

“Until I fall asleep… Can you hold my hand?”(E/N: Kek, enjoy you salty virg-)

“I have some cleaning up to do, and I’m kind of in the middle of it.
I have a lot of work to do.
But I guess I can spare you my time for a bit.”

Oi, Kiryu.
Don’t look so happy.
My rationale, get it together!

(T/N: Aren’t we skipping a few steps here…)
