“Not our men? Could it be our brothers who were patrolling the mountains?”

“Doesn’t look like it.” Captain Liu picked up the cloth strip and dangled it in front of the drug detection dog’s nose for it to sniff.
Upon seeing the dog rush towards the direction where Ye Jian1 had disappeared into, Captain Liu quickly raised his hand, and the squad of seven people quickly followed.

It wasn’t their comrade that went mountain patrolling, neither was it one of their own,… someone had come through here, discovered the abnormality in this place, and left them some clues.
They can also take it as someone helping them out.

Who is helping them? It’s already late, and it was still raining, so who would appear in this rainforest where drug dealers frequent and where danger was ubiquitous.   

There was no way to be certain whether it was one of their own, and there was also no way to be sure whether or not the person who left them the clues was safe.
They didn’t cover up the tracks of the drug dealers.
Instead, they left it behind and waited for them to discover it,… that’s probably safe in their books.

The border patrol with their drug detection dog marched in the dense rainforest while hunting for drug dealers.
Leaves that were moist with rain brushed over their bodies, faces and hands, besides leaving rainwater on them, micro-scratches also appeared on their hands and faces.

Ye Jian, who walked along the mountain ridge, similarly did not stop.
She was currently walking over thick shrubbery as she journeyed in this green world, even rainwater had turned into green streaks of water, falling from the sky before her eyes.

There was no light in the rainforest after dark.
Walking past the trees that grew unevenly, her military boots stepped over the bushes until even the sound of her footfalls were covered up by the sound of rain.

“Are we taking the same path? They left their tracks the entire way.” Ye Jian bent down and pulled apart the short shrub leaves.

A smile hooked across the edges of her lips as she gripped the sniper rifle in her hands.
She pulled out a sterile gauze from her medkit and tied a knot on the shrub leaves.
As long as the border police did not abandon their search, they’ll definitely find the clue she had left behind.

When she was told she was going to tread on the marching route where Xia Jinyuan2 had walked before in his extreme wilderness training, Principal Chen jokingly teased her to not be like Major Xia, encountering drug dealers while they were making a trade.

He encountered that, who would’ve thought she would also encounter the same thing? The only difference was, this band of people had already been discovered, and they were currently fugitives.    

Leaving behind a marking, Ye Jian continued carrying her heavy sniper rifle on her shoulder as she walked alone in the unending forest.
No traces of fear could be seen from her face.
She moved forward with extreme calmness, with a dauntless flair.
Without an ounce of timidity, as she stepped on the mountain ridge where Xia Jinyuan had once stepped foot, marching towards her destination with unwavering will.

On a mountain path around twenty kilometers away from Ye Jian, a party of five men was forced by the rain to take a break from their escape, hiding themselves beneath tree leaves as they rested, sheltered from the rain.  

“Brother Hong, there’s still a couple dozen more kilometers, when would our people reinforce us?” The man who spoke had a village accent in his Mandarin, he talked very quickly, and while talking, he was looking around his surroundings.
Just from his mannerisms, it was clear that this man was currently in a state of fear.    

Night has always been the bringer of unknown terrors to any person.
Taking the same mountain path at night or day, there would be a huge change to a person’s mental and psychological state.  

And for these fugitives, not only do they have to face the unknown dangers of the night, but they also had to face the threat of being arrested and imprisoned at any moment.
